The general objectives of the department are summarized as providing undergraduate (Licentiate) students with the essential information necessary for a specialist in libraries and information centers.

To prepare specialists in library and information science equipped with the skills to manage and develop the institutions and facilities of society and to improve information services using modern technological methods and means.
To serve scientific research in the field of library and information science and to open new horizons for the development of the profession and elevating it to the ranks of advanced nations.
To contribute to the development and service of the Libyan Arab community through training, continuous education, and raising awareness about the importance of the field of library and information science and its study.

Description
The Department of Library and Information Science is one of the departments of the College of Arts, Al-Asaabiya / University of Gharyan. It was founded in the academic year 2009-2010. The Library and Information Science program grants graduating students a Bachelor's (Licentiate) degree in Library and Information Science after completing 8 semesters with a total of 127 credit units. Its mission is to prepare and qualify specialized academic cadres to meet the needs and demands of the job market in libraries, information institutions, and archives in the city of Assabaa specifically, and throughout Libya in general.
